Why are personal UX objectives important?

When I posted this video about how I document my work you guys seemed to find it super helpful. How I document my work aligns with how I outline my objectives. So I thought it being January and all, it’s the time when most of us are planning out our objectives (or definitely should be thinking about it at the very least 😉)

It took me way too long into my career to really see just how valuable objectives can be.

  1. They help keep you focused and help you divide up your time - Personally I like to put the percentage of my time I’m dedicating against each objective.

  2. They kinda force you to figure out where your skill gaps or growth opportunities are and what you can do about it.

  3. They set expectations for your manager and other stakeholders - I’m a big fan of sharing my objectives out to all of the execs I work with so they know exactly where my time is being spent. Personally, this has come in suuuper handy if TOO much is being asked of you.
