UX Objectives Planning Workshop IS ON Jan 27th!
UX Objectives Workshop Jan 27th 🎉 Next Live AMA Jan 22, & new email format. Little gems include: new job board, animation library & neat shortcut app.
👋 Hey UXers, Miranda here! Hope you’re geared up to survive another week.
This newsletter series draws on my 13 years in UX to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need to showcase your value and accelerate your career growth.
Last week I was completely consumed with the Live Designer Fundraiser so thanks to those of you who joined and donated ❤️ otherwise I’m trying to survive the absolute freezing fog (-1C, 30F) we have over here in NL 🥶 The canals have already frozen over once, let’s see if this year is an ice skating year.
📣 I’m going to try a bit of a different approach with these emails. Here is what you can expect: 2 emails a month.
1. A “recap”email that let’s you know what content I’ve been posting and what I’ve got coming soon (just like this email) along with a collection of little gems I’ve found and want to share with you.
2. An in-depth topic email based on the career challenges and skill-building goals you shared in my reader survey, DMs or comments.
There might be an additional email or two if I have something coming up like this objectives workshop or other timely things 👇
How does that sound to you?
I’ve got some cool stuff happening soon:
Next Live AMA Jan 22 - Make sure you’re following me on Youtube and tap “Notify me” if you don’t want to miss out. P.S. I’m doing 2 Lives EVERY month on YouTube! I’ll likely still do random ones over on TikTok whenever I’m feeling it 😉
UX Objective Planning Workshop - IT’S ON!
I'm happy to let you know that enough people were interested that I've scheduled the UX Objective Planning Workshop for January 27th 🎉 There are limited seats so don’t miss out! I hope I see you there!
Why are objectives important for designers?
Stay accountable and focused
Help you figure out where your skill gaps & growth opportunities are
Set expectations with your manager & other stakeholders about exactly where your time is being spent
When done right they can help you articulate exactly where you are going above and beyond your role expectations which is super important for promotions
What will you walk away with?
A well-thought-out draft of your personal UX objectives to use for yourself and share with your manager & stakeholders.
In case you missed it…
🎬 Live design portfolio reviews to raise money for LA's 🔥 recovery- We look at 2 different portfolios and I take you through the mistakes to avoid and the elements that will actually land you an interview.
📝 How I’ve been documenting my design work for the last 7 years - Here is the simple framework I use to make sure my impact is tracked for performance evaluations and promotions.
🎬 LIVE AMA Recording - I cover choosing between freelancing and corporate work, the impact of AI on the industry, practical tips for building your portfolio, and finding user testers. Plus, I shared some key advice on acing your next interview and why years of experience aren't always the deciding factor
Have you been finding my content valuable? Videos, articles, or emails? If you have… I’d really appreciate it if you spent 2 minutes and left me some feedback ❤️
Little gems I found this month
Design Better’s New Job Board — Aaron Walter over at Design Better is working on connecting their 99,000 strong design community with job opportunities. So, if you’re on the hunt for a job, have a look at building out a profile.
Micro-animations library — A really nice library of minimal micro-animation ready to add to any design project 👌
LinkedIn Open Roles — I’ve had at least 5 really interesting job opportunities pop up in my network over on LinkedIn, which I always repost ♻️. So make sure you’re following me over there if you’re interested.
Pie Menu – Neat shortcut widget app for Mac that I could see really coming in handy for Figma & Notion.
Just for fun…
Draw.audio — Draw patterns and listen to them. Ok my why am I vibing so hard with this one I made?
